Based on Chris Seavor's subsequent actions and statements, it seems like he never had any understanding of what we liked about his game he just happened to make a game full of crass, often stupid humor and hedonism, just happened to give it a downer ending, and would have just happened to repeat it without any character development if circumstances didn't intervene. Unfortunately, the more likely explanation is that this deep scenario we've made ourselves believe, wherein they deliberately made a game for angsty, nihilistic teenagers, only to deliberately slap their naive worldview in the face, was never real. So would having Berri live really have done anything to make Conker happier? They make it out like he's so torn by the loss that he ends the game going out drinking, but that's also what he did when she was alive and nominally his girlfriend. So Conker and Berri seemed to not have been much of a happy, healthy relationship. Quite possibly, she'd have made the same choice in Conker's place. Both were self-indulged, both displayed no problem being with others of the opposite sex, and while Conker ultimately was the one to bag up all the money, see Berri get shot, and not think to save her from death, she, too, had no problem working for Don Weaso and killing people for money. It seems like a real possibility that they had a mutual apathy going, with the only real question being who started leaving the other blue-balled first. Both Conker and Berri weren't exactly paragons of morality, and they were hardly shown as caring about each other. At the end of it all, Conker learns that despite having attained money and power, he failed to retain that thing which mattered most to him, Berri.Īs tragic as this is made out to be, and as tragic as a person being murdered actually is, looking at the rest of the game, it doesn't really seem as though there should have been much love lost.
The ending of Conker's Bad Fur Day is infamous, though mostly in a good way, for going against the the hedonistic, nihilist delusion that much of the rest of the game sold. This board's been rusting, so I might as well post something I've been wondering about.
